We have recently been working with a number of organisations on Statistical Process Control and production metrics with an emphasis on assurance that the correct variables are being measured.
A key element of SPC (Statistical Process Control) is ensuring the organisation is measuring production data of value and can identify potential failures in the product before release due to process variation. Creating a robust process that enhances a transparent view of the where, the why and the how we measure items in the production process is foremost in gaining value using SPC and the data it produces. The image below outlines how a robust view of quality tools can deliver such value using SPC.
The basis for sound SPC metrics beyond the basic production data is related to the critical and significant characteristics of products and is the outcome of this product quality planning approach which forms the basis of efficient production measurement systems. Before learning how to use statistical process control in production data it is important to ensure the organisation is measuring the correct requirements.
